Vistara Merges with Air India: Livery Changes Ahead?
Deal News | Nov 12, 2024 | EIN

In a landmark move for India's aviation landscape, Vistara, a joint venture between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, has merged with Air India. Questions have arisen regarding the future of Vistara’s iconic livery of purple, gold, and white. The merger's primary aims include streamlining operations and expanding services, however, Vistara's distinct branding will be temporarily retained. Customers will cease to book flights under the Vistara brand from November 12, but Air India will operate aircrafts under Vistara's livery initially. A gradual rebranding process is planned, with complete integration of pilots and crew anticipated early next year. The combined fleet of over 200 aircrafts will serve 90 destinations domestically and internationally. The merger has resulted in over 50% reduction in losses for both airlines. Singapore Airlines, as part of the merger deal, will take up a 25.1% stake in Air India as they integrate networks and loyalty programs, transitioning 4.5 million Club Vistara members to Air India's soon-to-be rebranded Maharaja Club. Despite operational hurdles during this integration, this development marks a significant consolidation aiming at enhanced market competitiveness.
