In a strategic move towards consolidation within the European refurbishment market, Recommerce Group, a France-based frontrunner in refurbished smartphones and consumer electronics, has acquired Switzerland-based Verkaufen. This acquisition aims to reinforce Recommerce's presence in Switzerland—one of the dozen European markets already covered by the company—while bolstering its European foothold more broadly. Recommerce's leadership highlighted the acquisition as a significant milestone, not just for business expansion but also in terms of market consolidation. Notably, Verkaufen brings in substantial expertise with its team of 30 device repair experts and status as a certified partner for tech behemoths Apple and Samsung, an advantage emphasized by Recommerce's CEO in fostering relations with major manufacturers. Recommerce also stands out for its innovative forward trade-in approach, allowing consumers to sell back refurbished devices at a predefined price, an area where Verkaufen's strengths are expected to contribute significantly. Although Recommerce's annual revenue has reached €180 million, the financial terms of this acquisition remain undisclosed.
