Veolia Secures 15-Year Management of Lipor's Energy Recovery Project

Abreu Advogados has provided legal counsel to Veolia Group in a significant tender to manage Lipor's Energy Recovery Plant in Greater Porto, Portugal, for 15 years. This project aligns with Lipor's sustainability goals, involving decarbonization, energy efficiency, and digitalization to serve approximately one million inhabitants. The plant processes 390,000 tonnes of urban waste annually and aims to convert it into electricity for around 150,000 people. The contract includes potential innovations such as solar photovoltaic units, carbon capture technologies, and moving from electrical to thermal energy production. It also explores the development of an energy community to deliver economic benefits to municipalities via market tariffs.
