UniCredit Boosts Stake in Alpha Bank to 20%

UniCredit has increased its stake in Alpha Services and Holdings (Alpha), a Greek bank, from 10.3% to 20%. The transaction, valued by Bloomberg at approximately 615 million euros, marks a strategic move by UniCredit following the complete divestment from Alpha Bank by Reggeborgh Invest. The expansion enables UniCredit to present proposals for acquiring a share in Alpha Bank exceeding 10% up to a maximum of 29.9%. The action is anticipated to generate an additional net profit of about 180 million euros annually, which UniCredit plans to return to its shareholders per its distribution policy. The acquisition is expected to finalize by the end of 2025, reinforcing the partnership between UniCredit and Alpha Bank. According to UniCredit's CEO, Andrea Orcel, the collaboration has significantly exceeded expectations and he expressed optimism about Alpha's leadership and growth strategy, as well as their enduring partnership efforts with the Greek government and institutions.
