In a landmark administrative reorganization, Cần Thơ City has been established as a central economic powerhouse of the Mekong Delta, merging its territories with Hậu Giang and Sóc Trăng provinces. The reorganization, endorsed by the National Assembly and Party Central Committee, aims to enhance regional cooperation across economic, cultural, and security domains. The new administrative unit consists of 103 governance entities and is guided by robust leadership under key appointments including Trần Văn Lu as Chairman of the People’s Committee. National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn emphasized the city's strategic role in becoming a central hub for trade, innovation, and technology, while prioritizing socio-economic development and improving citizens' quality of life.
