Deal News | Apr 03, 2025 | Zawya

Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) and Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) have announced a series of ambitious energy infrastructure projects aimed at advancing the UAE's National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031 and the country's Net Zero by 2050 initiative. Key to this groundbreaking collaboration is the 24-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed by TAQA to build, own, and operate a 1-gigawatt Al Dhafra Open-Cycle Gas Turbine project. This initiative will enhance grid infrastructure to support sustainable energy solutions using TAQA's advanced power generation and transmission capabilities. A strategic partnership with EWEC and Masdar will channel an estimated AED 36 billion investment into energy supply infrastructure, predominantly focusing on renewable and conventional power generation, with a quarter of the investment allocated to enhancing grid infrastructure. The joint venture represents a significant step for the UAE towards becoming a global leader in renewable energy and low-carbon innovation, with a comprehensive commitment to developing a sustainable and AI-enhanced energy framework.
