SugaROx Boosts Funding with £1m for Crop Innovation
Deal News | Aug 20, 2025 | Business Cloud

SugaROx, an Oxford-based EnviroTech company and spinout from Rothamsted Research and the University of Oxford, has secured a £1m investment. Of this sum, £400,000 comes from the global fertiliser giant The Mosaic Company, with the remainder from angel investors and impact-led funds like Future Planet Capital and Regenerate Ventures. This follows a £2.4m Innovate UK grant aimed at scaling the manufacturing of its lead active ingredient, Trehalose-6-Phosphate (T6P). This biostimulant targets key plant enzymes to increase crop yield and resilience, providing an alternative to traditional chemical fertilisers. The funding will accelerate the shift from lab to pilot manufacturing, supporting plans to launch its first product in UK wheat fields by 2027. The involvement of The Mosaic Company offers more than capital; it provides access to a network of US trial sites and a platform for real-time field performance visualization.
