Spanish M&A Market Declines by 17% in July

In July 2025, the Spanish M&A market experienced a significant downturn, with a total of 1,837 deals amounting to €58.426 billion, representing a 16.80% drop in the number of transactions and a 10.65% decrease in capital mobilized compared to the previous year. Banco Santander emerged as the leading financial advisor both in terms of transaction numbers and deal value, with Alantra and J.P. Morgan following. The real estate sector remained the most active, followed by the internet, software, and IT services sectors. Cross-border investment showed Spain targeting Portugal, the U.S., and Italy, while the U.K. and France were major countries investing in Spain. Specifically, French investments totaled €3.949,64 million. July also saw a decline in private equity deals by 20.86% with a value slide of 29.59%. Venture capital activity registered 359 operations, although the number of transactions decreased by 18%, their total value increased by 44.56% compared to the previous year. Asset acquisitions saw 500 deals, declining by 12.74% in number and 30.41% in value.
