The round was spearheaded by Mercia Ventures, with Tensor Ventures and other private investors also participating. This capital infusion is aimed at expanding Scalpel AI's operations globally and integrating its innovative technology across the healthcare supply chain, particularly with sterile services, hospitals, and third-party logistics providers like GlobalMed Logistix (GMLx). Identifying and tracking surgical kits with precision, the company's platform is designed to address the costly mismanagement of surgical tools, which leads to errors and delays affecting patient safety and efficiency. By developing digital twins for each instrument, Scalpel AI ensures accurate delivery and reduces equipment loss, striving to standardize surgical logistics on a global scale. It was established in 2017 by Dr. Yeshwanth Pulijala and Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmed, who leveraged their expertise in medical visualisation and computer vision to create a solution addressing the critical issues in surgical workflows. Their efforts promise not only to save costs but also pave the way for personalized surgery, enhancing overall patient care. Mercia Ventures' Lee Lindley expressed confidence in the platform's potential to transform surgical logistics and support the company's international ambitions.
