Ryan Specialty Strengthens Leadership with Key Appointments at RSUM International

Ryan Specialty has announced a strategic reshuffling in the leadership of Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers International (RSUM International) with the appointment of Mark Birrell as Executive Chairman and James Montgomery as Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2025. Both executives will operate from RSUM International's London headquarters. Mark Birrell, an industry veteran with over 45 years of experience and founder of Wildnet Group and Castel Underwriting Agencies, transitions into his new role after Ryan Specialty's acquisition of Castel. His focus will be on international expansion in products and regions. James Montgomery, intimately familiar with the firm since 2016 and currently a Managing Director of Ryan Transactional Risk (RTR), steps into the CEO role, bringing his significant experience in managing and consolidating the RTR platform. Montgomery aims to sustain RSUM International's growth trajectory by leveraging the talent and resources within the firm. The appointments underscore Ryan Specialty's commitment to bolstering its executive team to meet both client demands and its international growth targets.
