Rutherglen to Boost NextPower's Energy Storage Footprint

NextEnergy Capital Ltd.'s NextPower UK ESG fund has acquired a 29MW standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project named Rutherglen. This project, located strategically in Glasgow, is NPUK's 13th acquisition and third in November, rounding out their portfolio's total secured battery capacity to 49MW. Integral in addressing energy grid constraints, the Rutherglen project promises operational efficiency and augmentation potential. This acquisition is part of NPUK's broader 700MW BESS capacity, forming a complementary asset with their solar investments. As NPUK approaches its 1GW capacity goal, it aims to power 250,000 households annually. This strategic acquisition underscores the importance of energy storage in supporting renewable energy initiatives across the UK. Recently, NPUK secured approximately £683 million in funds, well above its initial £500 million goal. The addition of Rutherglen signals a significant step for NPUK as it ensures sustainable energy solutions by leveraging optimal storage locations and advanced battery technologies.
