Pony.ai Secures $102M from Eight Roads for Autonomous Vehicle Advancement

Pony.ai, an autonomous driving startup, has secured $102 million in a new funding round that includes participation from Eight Roads Services UK Ltd., ClearVue Partners, and Sequoia Capital China. This funding elevates Pony.ai's total capital raised to $214 million, earmarked for expansion and commercialization in the autonomous vehicle sector. Since its last funding round, Pony.ai has expanded its team and initiated a soft launch of an autonomous ride-hailing service in Guangzhou, a first for the Chinese market. Their fleet has already covered over one thousand rides and 30 square kilometers in the city. Pony.ai has also achieved a significant milestone by acquiring a high-level autonomous vehicle testing license in Beijing, impressively passing over 39 distinct test capabilities. The funds will further Pony.ai’s growth and assist in meeting regulatory requirements as they prepare for broader commercialization of their technology.
