Play Ventures Raises $140M for New Gaming Fund

Play Ventures, a global venture capital firm focused on the gaming industry, has raised $140 million for its third gaming fund, making it the largest fund they have secured to date. Despite the gaming sector facing significant layoffs over the past few years, Play Ventures is optimistic about the industry's future, emphasizing opportunities in mobile gaming, AI-enhanced gaming tools, and user-generated content (UGC) platforms. The firm intends to utilize Fund III to continue its strategy of investing in early-stage gaming companies, concentrating on areas like mobile free-to-play models, gaming infrastructure, and interactive experiences enhanced by AI. Play Ventures cofounder Harri Manninen expressed the fund's importance in fostering emerging game companies and creating job opportunities in an evolving market. Having already made eight investments since June 2023, Play Ventures plans to support 20 to 25 companies globally with this fund. Founded in 2018, the firm has headquarters in Singapore and Helsinki and continues to expand its influence by supporting innovative gaming startups.
