Omnes Capital Surpasses Fundraising Targets in Renewables

Omnes Capital, a prominent private equity firm focusing on renewable energy, has successfully closed its fifth-generation renewable energy fund, Capenergie 5, with €2.05 billion, exceeding its original target of €1.35 billion. The firm’s renewable energy strategy, spearheaded by Marc-Philippe Botte and Michael Pollan, is capitalizing on the increasing investor interest in renewable energies in Europe. While the renewable energy market across Europe is not yet at its peak, certain geographies like the Nordics and the Iberian Peninsula face oversupply challenges in onshore wind and solar PV sectors, respectively. Yet, these imbalances are self-correcting, with cheaper electricity attracting new industries. Omnes Capital’s approach focuses on investing in companies and their entrepreneurs, fostering long-term business growth instead of solely investing in assets. The demand for energy sovereignty has heightened the importance of renewables, particularly post the Ukraine war, as countries strive for energy independence. Despite a complicated exit environment, Omnes successfully realized four exits last year, and larger utility firms remain active buyers. Looking ahead, Omnes is preparing its sixth-generation fund, planning to expand geographically and address the need for smart IPPs that meet the demand for better electricity quality rather than mere volume.
