Naturbeads Secures £7.8m for Microplastic Solution

Naturbeads, a UK-based startup focused on addressing microplastic pollution, has recently secured £7.8 million in a Series A funding round to further develop its innovative technology. Founded in 2018 as a spinout from the University of Bath, the company specializes in cellulose microsphere technology, which provides a sustainable alternative to microplastics in everyday products. This technology aims to mitigate the environmental impact of microplastics, which accumulate in ecosystems and pose significant health concerns. With new European Union regulations set to phase out microplastics in various products by 2027, Naturbeads is poised to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly solutions. Led by chief executive Dr. Giovanna Laudisio, the company's funding round saw participation from Eos Advisory and other investors, including CDP Venture Capital and Paragon Capital Management. The investment will support Naturbeads’ expansion, including the establishment of a production plant in Italy and collaboration with global manufacturers. Naturbeads plans to announce its first commercial milestones by 2025.
