Moylon: Transforming Batteries with £3.6m Funding

Moylon, a Cambridge-based university spinout founded in the current year, has secured $4.6 million (£3.6 million) in a new funding round to pioneer the development of lithium-sulphur batteries. Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries that employ elements subject to supply chain volatility, lithium-sulphur batteries promise a higher energy density using sulphur, one of Earth's most plentiful elements. This investment will expedite the manufacturing at Moylon's pilot facility, concentrating initially on drones and robotics, with broader applications in transportation anticipated. Dr. Ismail Sami, co-founder and CEO of Moylon, emphasized overcoming previous chemical challenges using MoS2 and advancing battery technology. Investors such as Plural, led by Ian Hogarth and Taavet Hinrikus, alongside IQ Capital, are backing Moylon. This funding follows crucial support from multiple academic and engineering entities, marking a significant leap toward lighter and more efficient energy solutions.
