Latvian Radio and Television Merge to Form Unified Public Media

The Latvian Electronic Public Media Council, with counsel from TGS Baltic, has successfully orchestrated the merger of Latvian Radio and Latvian Television into a unified entity known as Latvian Public Media (LSM). The merger, which comes into effect on January 2, 2025, is the result of amendments to the Electronic Public Media and Governance Law. LSM will integrate the resources and teams of both broadcasters and the internet portal LSM.lv, creating a consolidated public media organization. The newly formed media entity will begin operations with 865 employees and an initial state-funded budget of €51 million, with an additional €19 million expected by the end of the year. This move aims to streamline resources, enhance broadcasting capabilities, and provide a more efficient public media service to the citizens.
