JLR invests £65m in sustainable paint operations expansion

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the UK's largest luxury car manufacturer, has announced a significant investment of £65 million to sustainably expand its paint facilities located in Castle Bromwich, UK, and Nitra, Slovakia. This initiative is part of JLR's broader Reimagine strategy aimed at reducing the environmental impact of its most carbon-intensive manufacturing processes. The investment includes £24 million allocated to the Nitra facility, which will see the installation of a new electric universal paint line, creating 120 new jobs and marking a step towards electrified paint shops. A further £41 million is being invested in transforming the Castle Bromwich facility into the new home for JLR's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) paint, with new application booths set to significantly enhance energy and water efficiency. Demand for personalized and exclusive paint options for models such as the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport has more than doubled since FY22. With these expansions, JLR aims to double its capacity for bespoke paint and luxury elevated palette choices, potentially supporting over 17,000 additional client orders per year. These steps align with JLR's commitment to minimizing operational emissions, with paintshops being their largest emission sources. JLR's new paint technologies, including automated spray robots and state-of-the-art application booths, promise to reduce paint waste and improve finish quality. Additionally, sustainability measures such as smart oven controls and heat exchangers are projected to save significant CO2 emissions and operational costs. These efforts underscore JLR's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions while fulfilling the growing demand for vehicle personalization.
