Irpin's Reconstruction Supported by Nefco and Swedish Aid
Deal News | Jun 13, 2025 | Nordic Environment Finance Cor

Sweden has launched an aggressive reconstruction project in Irpin, Ukraine, managed by the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (Nefco), to tackle the immense challenge of rebuilding after severe infrastructural damage caused by Russia's invasion. The initiative is funded by the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Sida, allocating EUR 5.9 million towards sustainable reconstruction. It aims to demonstrate the viability of environmentally friendly methods for managing debris from demolished structures. Agreements have been established between Nefco, the City of Irpin, and Swedish companies Scania and Volvo CE, solidifying a collaborative approach to implementing Swedish technology and expertise. The project emphasizes training female drivers as a part of its capacity-building efforts. Once completed by spring 2026, this project is set to serve as a model for similar reconstruction efforts throughout Ukraine. Nefco's involvement underscores significant international collaboration towards Ukraine's recovery, with a broader goal of fostering a greener economy.
