HSBC Appoints Selim Kervanci as Middle East CEO Amid Leadership Shake-up

HSBC announced a significant shake-up in its senior leadership team, with several important appointments effective January 1, 2025. Selim Kervanci has been appointed as the CEO of the Middle East, pending regulatory approval. Kervanci, a seasoned executive, has a long tenure with HSBC, including serving as CEO for HSBC Türkiye. He will report to Surendra Rosha and David Liao, Co-CEOs for Asia and the Middle East. Concurrently, Richard Blackburn has been designated as the Interim Group Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, following various senior risk management roles since joining HSBC in 2016. Blackburn's successor has yet to be named. Additionally, Celine Herweijer, the Group Chief Sustainability Officer, is stepping down at the end of December 2024. Julian Wentzel, presently Head of Global Banking, MENAT, will succeed Herweijer on an interim basis, and report to the Group CFO Pam Kaur.
