Hochul Announces Deal for 1,400 New Homes on Manhattan's Far West Side

Governor Kathy Hochul has revealed plans for a groundbreaking $1.35 billion mixed-use development on Manhattan's Far West Side, undertaken by the Hudson Boulevard Collective. The project aims to construct 1,349 residential units, of which 404 will be permanently affordable, alongside a nonprofit climate museum and hotel near the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. This development, permitted to build to a residential Floor Area Ratio over 12.0, is supported by Governor Hochul's FY 2025 Budget housing reforms. The involvement of minority-owned businesses in the Hudson Boulevard Collective signifies an inclusive approach to addressing New York City's housing crisis. Notably, this initiative is set to become the first in New York City to adopt such zoning reform in more than six decades. The project's strategic phased construction prioritizes the residential aspect to swiftly provide much-needed housing, serving as a model of how policy innovation can foster sustainable, inclusive community growth.
