Harry-Brot Expands with Acquisition of Glockenbrot from REWE

In a recent strategic move, Harry-Brot has expanded its operations in southern Germany by acquiring the large bakery, Glockenbrot, from REWE. The transaction involves the creation of two joint ventures with REWE, serving as property companies for bakeries in Bergkirchen and Erlensee. This acquisition marks the beginning of Harry-Brot's responsibility for operational management in these locations. As part of the deal, REWE is exiting the bread and baked goods production space and will source these products from Harry-Brot moving forward. This vertical disintegration in the food retail sector has been approved by the Federal Cartel Office as of April 15, 2025. The legal proceedings were handled by Hogan Lovells, with a notable team of legal professionals leading the advice. This transaction significantly bolsters Harry-Brot's position as Germany's premier supplier of bread and baked goods, fostering enhanced competition and securing long-term supply arrangements with the REWE Group.
