The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) railway project is set to be completed by the end of 2030, according to a report from Kuwait's Public Authority for Roads and Transportation (PART). The project, covering a 2,177-kilometer stretch from Kuwait to Muscat, Oman, aims to enhance economic ties among GCC countries, promote investment, and reduce transportation costs and environmental impact. PART has listed 11 economic feasibility goals, including fostering economic exchanges, reducing costs, preventing traffic accidents, and creating job opportunities. Notable progress includes a Turkish company winning the KD 2.4 million tender for the design and preparatory work for the initial segment in Kuwait. The 265-kilometer section in Kuwait is divided into two phases, with the first to span Nuwaiseeb to Shaddadiya and feature four stations. Upon completion, the railway is expected to spur economic development in adjacent areas and tie together the Gulf. Further extensions to Iraq are contingent on reaching agreement with northern neighboring countries.
