Garton Takes Helm as Makena's Chief Investment Officer

Makena Capital Management has announced the promotion of Jackson Garton to the position of Chief Investment Officer (CIO). Having served as Co-CIO since September 2023, alongside Larry Kochard, Garton's appointment marks a new era in leadership for the firm. With this change, Kochard will transition to a Senior Advisor role and become a member of Makena's Board of Directors. Garton's career with Makena spans nearly two decades, during which he has significantly contributed to the firm's investment strategies. His professional journey within Makena includes roles such as Deputy CIO, Head of Marketable Investments, and Managing Director. Outside Makena, he engages with the investment community through advisory roles and his involvement with the Stanford Graduate School of Business Trust. Garton intends to continue building on the firm's endowment-style investment philosophy. The succession has been a well-considered plan that ensures continuity and future growth. Kochard, who joined Makena as CIO in 2018 and previously held senior positions in other esteemed institutions, will remain involved with Makena in an advisory capacity.
