Five Arrows: European VC Raises Surge to $3.5bn in October

In October, European venture capital raises reached an impressive $3.5bn, marking the third-highest monthly total year-to-date. This amount is a striking 2.7 times the level of October 2023 and almost 30% above the October 2022 figure, suggesting a significant recovery from a downturn in the third quarter. European raises for the year now total $29.1bn, reflecting a 15% increase over 2023. This resurgence is largely attributed to substantial investments in climate tech, where Mirova invested $528m in RP Global, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development invested $110m in GreenGenius. Swiss company terralayr, and Swedish Aira also secured funding to advance renewable energy solutions. Noteworthy is the robust performance in biotech, with Purespring Therapeutics leading the sector in raises for its kidney disease gene therapy. The largest deal of the month came from marketing technology firm Insider, which obtained $500m in Series E funding. Additionally, fintech company Zepz raised $267m, and The Exploration Company secured $165m. These developments indicate a revitalized venture capital landscape across Europe.
