Egypt Plans Major Agricultural Investment Push Across Africa

Egypt is ramping up its investment efforts across the African continent, focusing particularly on the agricultural sector. Under the directives of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk is advocating for increased cooperation with African countries to enhance food security and economic integration. The strategy includes joint ventures and agro-industrial projects as cornerstones of these partnerships. To facilitate this initiative, the Ministry of Agriculture convened a meeting with key stakeholders, including members of both the House and Senate agriculture committees and the Agricultural Crops Export Council, to develop an investment model for agricultural projects across Africa. The model will target politically stable African countries with suitable infrastructure and resources, leveraging abundant land and water for strategic crop cultivation. The meeting stressed the importance of involving the private sector, scientific institutions, and research bodies to establish practical collaboration frameworks. Plans include forming a permanent committee for assessing investment opportunities, emphasizing data accuracy, risk mitigation, and stakeholder participation.
