DP World advances deep-water port project in Congo

DP World has chosen Mota-Engil to lead the development of the Banana Port in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), marking a significant advancement in the project. The port is anticipated to fortify the DRC's role as a major trade hub, featuring state-of-the-art infrastructure designed to reduce business costs and amplify economic autonomy for the nation. Comprising two phases, the project's first phase will enable accommodation of the world's largest vessels, with a handling capacity of 450,000 TEUs annually and a 30-hectare storage area. The project's second phase will expand the quay wall by over 2 kilometers. The port's development will significantly impact local employment, creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs, thus providing numerous opportunities for Congolese workers and businesses. DP World’s Group Chairman and CEO, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, emphasized the importance of constructing world-class infrastructure to bolster economic growth and cultivate new opportunities for the people of the DRC.
