Downtown Skyport Takes Charge of Manhattan Heliport to Propel Sustainable Air Mobility

The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) has appointed Downtown Skyport as the new operator of the Downtown Manhattan Heliport (DMH) with plans to transform it into a sustainable, multi-modal transportation and logistics hub. The contract follows a competitive RFP process and aligns with the city's vision of reducing noise and environmental impacts from helicopter and freight operations. As a joint venture between Skyports Infrastructure, an advanced air mobility infrastructure leader, and Groupe ADP, a global airport operator, Downtown Skyport intends to integrate electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) technology and maritime freight solutions at DMH. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to create an interconnected, eco-friendly transport network. The project is anticipated to enhance quality of life in New York City by reducing truck traffic and noise pollution, with a focus on promoting diversity and equity through its outreach efforts. Set to fully transition operations by early 2025, the project aims to complete its infrastructure updates by 2026. Funding for the initiative includes substantial support from the U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime Administration, further supporting efforts to mitigate congestion and advance sustainable transport solutions.
