Downing Completes £16 Million Loan for Sustainable Housing

In its latest move to bolster its lending business, Downing LLP has completed a significant loan of £16 million aimed at constructing 50 energy-efficient apartments in Kent. The structure of this financing arrangement is notably aligned with Downing's sustainability goals, offering potential interest rate rebates and margin reductions if certain sales milestones are met. Doug Bowley and Mark Sukhram led this initiative for Downing, highlighting the company's commitment to supporting SME developers with debt ranging up to £30 million. Under this scheme, the apartments will be built to high specifications by the borrower operating on a self-building, construction management basis. This investment falls within Downing's strategy to supply the housing market with residential-led developments and also to lend competently to sectors such as student accommodation, while maintaining a strong foothold in wholesale finance primarily targeting SME lenders in the property domain.
