Copernic Catalysts revolutionizes green technology with $8M seed funding

Copernic Catalysts, a Cambridge-based startup, has successfully secured $8 million in seed funding to advance its innovative work in creating cost-effective catalysts for green chemicals and fuels. This funding, led by Breakout Ventures, alongside Innospark Ventures, New Climate Ventures, Impact Science Ventures, and returning investors Future Ventures and Engine Ventures, seeks to propel the startup's ambitions to develop catalysts that make the production of low-carbon ammonia and sustainable aviation fuel more economically feasible. By focusing on cheaper catalyst options, Copernic Catalysts aims to allow these greener alternatives to compete favorably against traditional fuels in terms of cost-efficiency. This funding follows previous investments including a $2 million equity raise in 2021 and $3.8 million in grants from the Energy Department’s ARPA-E program and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center. Copernic Catalysts plans to scale its production through partnerships with external manufacturers, with a strategy for IP licensing to accompany their sales revenue from the catalyst materials. Plans for a Series A funding round are anticipated in 2026.
