Calhoun Steps in as Interim President of UNTHSC

Dr. Kirk Calhoun has been appointed as the interim president of The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. Bringing over 30 years of experience in academic medicine and health care leadership, Calhoun steps into this role following the resignation of former President Sylvia Trent-Adams. Previously, Calhoun was the president of The University of Texas at Tyler, where he was instrumental in the merger of academic and health science campuses and led the creation of the UT Tyler School of Medicine. His academic and medical career also includes positions at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Parkland Hospital, and UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Calhoun is recognized for his commitment to improving health outcomes and his leadership in health care delivery, especially in underserved areas. He has been involved at the national level, serving as board chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges and America's Essential Hospitals. His leadership is expected to guide UNTHSC in maintaining its reputation for excellence in innovation, education, research, and community engagement during this transitional period.
