BNP Paribas Cardif Closes AXA IM Acquisition

In a monumental deal marking a significant shift in the European asset management landscape, BNP Paribas Cardif has completed the acquisition of AXA Investment Managers (AXA IM) for approximately €5.1 billion ($6.40 billion). This strategic acquisition positions BNP Paribas as a leading force in the management of long-term savings across Europe, particularly for insurers and pension funds, by integrating AXA IM's significant expertise, especially in private assets. The acquisition, which establishes BNP Paribas as a major player managing around €850 billion ($1 trillion), is reinforced by a long-term collaboration with the AXA Group. The newly formed platform, leveraging both groups' robust distribution networks and innovation capabilities, aims to expand in private asset fund collection and the ETFs market. This strategic move enhances BNP Paribas' Investment and Protection Services by synergizing with its Commercial, Personal Banking and Services (CPBS), and Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) divisions. Notably, a proposed merger of the legal entities involved under BNP Paribas Cardif is pending consultation with employee representatives.
