Egypt's Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), led by Chairman Walid Gamal El-Din, has initiated the construction of a groundbreaking chlor-alkali plant by China's Befar Group. This $500 million green chemical facility, set in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, marks a significant development in sustainable chemistry within Egypt and globally. Spanning 400,000 square meters in the TEDA-Egypt industrial area, the plant will unfold in two phases. The initial phase, covering 200,000 square meters and costing $300 million, is slated for completion in 18 months, driven by clean energy sources and generating approximately 800 jobs. The plant is expected to play a pivotal role in localizing strategic industries and enhancing sectors like mineral extraction from seawater and bromine production.
