Building Design Northern (BDN), an architectural and engineering firm based in the North East, has announced the acquisition of Fitz Architects, also based in Sunderland, to create a new partnership aimed at providing a seamless end-to-end service in architectural design, engineering, and project management. This strategic consolidation is set to enhance BDN’s luxury residential services by incorporating Fitz Architects' expertise in visionary residential designs. Richard Marsden, the managing director of BDN, stated that the merger allows clients to benefit from a comprehensive service range, from technical design to planning and project completion, all under one roof. BDN has historically managed significant projects, such as the 4 million redevelopment of Sunderland’s award-winning Sheepfold Stables, while Fitz contributes a strong reputation in residential design across the UK. This strategic integration not only disrupts conventional norms that typically favor larger companies for full-service capabilities but also signals BDN and Fitz’s intention to make substantial inroads within the UK’s built environment sector. Both companies have solid track records and are eager to capitalize on new projects that are currently in the pipeline.
