Barton Blakeley Secures £2.4M for Carbon-to-Energy Innovation

Barton Blakeley, a company based in Harpenden, has successfully secured £2.4 million in a recent funding round to advance its innovative carbon utilisation technology. This round was led by Elbow Beach Capital, a venture capital firm active in the climate technology sector. The funds will support the deployment of Barton Blakeley’s first commercial system, capable of converting CO2 emissions into clean energy and synthetic silica, at an industrial site. This technology positions Barton Blakeley to cut over one-kilo-tonne of carbon emissions annually. Barton Blakeley has also welcomed former RWE Npower CEO, Volker Beckers, CBE, as its new chair. Beckers joins the company during a period of commercial scaling, intent on aiding the company as it transitions into commercial partnerships. Barton Blakeley, founded in 2016, designs technology to directly capture and utilise CO2 emissions on-site, creating a cheaper synthetic silica, a product with applications in numerous global industries, particularly relevant to the $500 billion market involving goods like internet cables and mobile phones. Elbow Beach Capital, a noted investor in climate-related innovation, contributed £1.7 million to this round, bolstering Barton Blakeley’s growth and signalling confidence in its commercial viability.
