Astarte & Toesca Launch $350 Million Fund for Chilean Permanent Crops

Astarte Capital Partners, a UK-based investment firm focusing on real assets, has partnered with Chile-based Toesca to launch a fund aimed at investing in regenerative agriculture, specifically permanent crops in Chile and the wider Latin America region. The Toesca Permanent Crops II fund, operating under the Astarte Platform, seeks to gather $350 million to advance Chile's agriculture sector. Permanent crops, such as fruit and nut trees, align with consumer preferences for sustainable diets and align with investors' commitments to nature-based solutions. Chile's favorable agricultural conditions, including climate, soil quality, and market access, make it an attractive investment location. Chile's geographical characteristics, such as its isolation and reverse seasonal cycle, provide a competitive edge for tapping into premium markets in the Northern Hemisphere during winter. Furthermore, permanent crops are seen as more sustainable than traditional crops, offering ecological benefits such as enhanced carbon capture and climate resilience. Currently, Astarte and Toesca have raised $45 million with more funds anticipated from international investors. Initial investments are targeting avocados, citrus fruits, and hazelnuts through both greenfield and brownfield projects.
