Alpheus Medical, a clinical-stage oncology company, has successfully closed a $52 million Series B funding round to advance its sonodynamic therapy (SDT) for treating glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. The financing was led by HealthQuest Capital and Samsara BioCapital, with contributions from existing investors such as OrbiMed and Action Potential Venture Capital. Key involvement also came from nonprofit venture arms like the Brain Tumor Investment Fund and Sontag Innovation Fund. The funding will finance a Phase 2B randomized controlled trial to evaluate SDT, which leverages Low-Intensity Diffuse Ultrasound combined with oral 5-aminolevulinic acid for cancer cell targeting.
