Aliplast Expands PET Recycling: Acquires Gurit Italia's Plant

Aliplast, a prominent name in Europe's plastic regeneration sector and a subsidiary of the Hera Group, has made a strategic move to enhance its PET recycling capacity by acquiring a recycling plant from Gurit Italia located in Carmignano di Brenta, Italy. This acquisition will increment Aliplast's production capacity by 15,000 tons annually. Aliplast’s initiative aligns with the evolving regulatory landscape in Italy and the broader European Union, where directives are compelling higher recycled content in packaging. Specifically, Italian legislative measures necessitate a minimum of 25% recycled material in plastic liquid food packaging. The Carmignano di Brenta plant processes post-consumer PET from recovery consortia like Corepla and Coripet, allowing for integration of advanced recycling technologies suitable for producing both food-contact and non-food-contact materials. Michele Petrone, CEO of Aliplast, emphasizes the acquisition’s alignment with company growth strategies focusing on both quantitative and qualitative enhancements. The acquisition also promises to streamline Aliplast's logistics, utilizing extensive storage facilities from Gurit Italia.
