Indonesia's Greenfield Gas Projects to Boost LNG Production

Indonesia's feed gas supplies for LNG production are expected to rise significantly because of new greenfield gas projects between 2024 and 2030, with particular emphasis on Enhanced Gas Recovery (EGR) projects like Ubadari and Vorwata. These developments, expected to add about 40 bcm of natural gas, will aid the Tangguh LNG project. Further support for LNG production will come from the Indonesia Deepwater Projects, with the Bontang LNG plant benefiting from Eni’s Merakes and Jangkrik gas fields. Recent significant gas discoveries in the South Andaman Sea may boost LNG production at the currently idle Arun LNG plant, and further proposals to develop Indonesia's total LNG production capacity to 48.9 mtpa by the early 2030s are underway. Despite potential production increases, LNG exports are not expected to grow proportionally due to Indonesia prioritizing domestic consumption. However, the realization of major projects like Abadi LNG could alter this outlook.
